+ Project Snapshot
A section of the French Broad Riverbank had been severely damaged due to flooding conditions during the construction of a new bridge. The bank erosion threatened both the recently installed bridge and an adjacent railroad line. Envirolok collaborated with Freese & Nichols, Inc. and the Tennessee DOT to provide a bio-engineered solution to restore and protect the riverbank. The rip rap toe was reconstructed and two stone vanes were added to to help slow and redirect flow away from the toe of the bank. Over 4700 Envirolok units were installed above the rip rap, and reinforced with an earth anchoring system, providing the strength to withstand frequent flooding. The system was then vegetated using a mix of native seeding and live stake Willow and Dogwood. The system continues to perform strong and has remains fully vegetated year after year.
